Hey, it certainly looks like they are squaring off the intersection like you said, but take a look at the Ninth Ave project on SDOT's site: http://www.seattle.gov/transportation/ninth_details.htm.
That proposal calls for a "new signalized bicycle crossing at Denny Way" at that point, but the diagram seems incongruent with the work that is being done. I have a call into SDOT.
I'll be down that way today, so I'll check it out. One thought is that they may be starting work on the corner building of Enso. Don't know what they'd tear up the other side of the street for, though.
